Check out this great write up by the homies at Mobtreal.com recapping their experience at our event last month! Don't miss out on this rounds fun taking place THIS Thursday June 20th at Le Belmont!

For the first time ever, I went to Hip Hop karaoke Montreal's monthly show at le Belmont last Thursday night. Folks, this is not your typical karaoke with friends, where you "sing" at the top of your lungs and everyone comes out semi-deaf by the end of the night. Performers at HHK come here to
We're baaaaack with another sponsor profile! Our event wouldn't be possible without these guys, so it's only right they get some shine. Today we're chillin' with Darcy McDonald of CultMTL , a mainstay in the Hip Hop music journalism world of Montreal for a hot minute. Let's go! 1) What do you like most about HHKMTL? Aside from the general good vibe, I really love the outta-nowhere quality of HHK as an entertaining experience. Repeat performers usually come back for a good reason, so you know there will always be some highly prepared, enthusiastic routines, but I also love seeing first-timers so much. Sometimes they just flat out kill it and that is obviously cool but I also really love when you can see someone who is like "Damn, I am actually doing this?" and you can kinda see them taking it all in at once on stage, while giving it right back...so I think that what is all-around-awesome: the atmosphere that allows performers to know they don't have to go up there and be incredible every time so much as just go up there, show love, and play that song they have always wanted to get up and rap at people, and enjoy themselves while entertaining the crowd. 2) What was the first rap show you went to and do you still listen to that artist today? Yikes, that is a tough one. I am sure I had seen some smaller shows, but I guess it would have to be A Tribe Called Quest at Lollapalooza in '94. And the truth of that matter is, though I was happy to see them too, I was absolutely 100% there to see the Beasties, yo. 'Ill Communication' had just come out, and I guess Tribe were supporting Marauders...any way you slice it, I was 16 and will never forget that single day as a life-altering experience. I got to see the B-Boys so many times, and each and every show was special and unforgettable. I already really miss that experience, and knowing it will never really happen the same again, so I always love HHKers who bust out their classics. Peace to MCA. Do I still listen to either band? The picture says it all. 3) If you were a rap artist what would your name be? Thrice Daily works...that's the number of times I come up with a new one. I think I'd just join the new school and use my given name, so everyone can really tell I am possibly a boy and definitely white. 4) If you could rap alongside one rapper, who would it be and why? Most people don't know that I can spit a verse or two fo' sho, and I keep it under my hat because I think it is one of the things that in my own head qualifies me to speak on local rap talent. Like, I'm not half bad at writing and rapping, been doing it a long time and I just treat that shit like a hobby so if someone is trying to take it more serious, they better be on par, at least. I realize that wasn't the question. The answer is Ice T and the song would be about how the man is a huge pansy. Holla if you read this, Trace!

Yes y'all! We have another sponsor profile for you guys today...because Hip Hop Karaoke Montreal ain't possible without 'em. We caught up with Nick Younès from INDECENT XPOSURE, one of the dopest sites on the net straight up! 1) What do you like most about HHKMTL? Everyone seems to be having a good time, both on and off stage. The excitement is infectious. I think HHKMTL revolutionized my understanding of Karaoke. 2) What was the first rap show you went to and do you still listen to that artist today? My most memorable one would be Eminem. 3) If you were a rap artist what would your name be? Cadence. 4) If you could rap alongside one rapper who would it be and why? This is a tough one. There are so many to choose from. Most probably Biggie, just because.

SPOTTED: The Hip Hop Karaoke Montreal flyer keeping things in order until we go all out on Thursday June 20ths at Le Belmont.

This month at HHKMTL we've reached out to our sponsors and asked them a few questions about their love for Hip Hop. To hear what they had to say, keep an eye out for our sponsor spotlight series! Let's kick it off with our favourite chef, EnZo 'Biscuit Boy' Catania! What do you like most about HHKMTL: At the first event, I think what I liked most was being in that crowd, singing along and vibing to the tunes. Now after the initial event, I'm just enjoying the vibe. What I like most is seeing a performer go all out, like Microskillz does. What was the first rap show you went to and do you still listen to that artist today: First rap show was Del the Funky Homosapien, when I was living in Ottawa in 2002, I think. And yeah I still listen to him. His albums always trip me out and his stuff with the Hieroglyphics and the Gorillaz are classics. If you were a rap artist what would your name be: 0243, it's a play on my name. If you could rap alongside one rapper who would it be and why: Pete Philly from Holland, his songs are soulful, uplifting and just really original. Check him out y'all!
